I actually saw your post earlier on twitter after you had JUST read #469. Here's the scoop - if Hinata was destined to play a bigger role in the Anime - then she'd have been around more often and she'd've been given more depth (more of a back story, etc). In the end, I think Kishimoto will be find a way for Sakura and Naruto to end up together. Remember how they "mimic" the Jiraya-Tsunade arc - which was never consumated (are you even old enough for such a word? hmmm). If you rewatch Shippuden from the start, you'll notice Sakura really warming up to Naruto. That said, for #469 - she's clearly being manipulative (hence the flashback: "Let me do the talking.") And as NICE as Hinata is, I don't believe she has a snowball's chance ending up with Naruto. You can't fault her dedication and her anti-"balimbing-ness" (I'm at a loss for words. doesn't happen often). But she's toast. My bet is Kishimoto will kill her off - probably killed by Sasuke or Madara/Tobi - driving Kiba into a revenge rage and making Naruto the glue to peace once again.
