Card Captor Sakura

It seems that I just can’t get enough of Syaoran and Sakura. While waiting for the next installment of TRC, I decided to read (finally) the CCS manga. Others were telling me that there were just some things that were explained in the manga but not in the anime. Besides, Clow Reed’s departure from the CCS world got me curious. So I visited One Manga and finished the entire series in one sitting.

By the way, the comments of the translator were really amusing. Obviously, she was exposed to the anime first before reading the manga (just like me). She placed side comments on how certain phenomenon were not fully explained in the anime. And she couldn’t help but react with the relationship revelations in the manga but were “toned down” in the anime. (Her comment CLAMP = pedophile got me laughing out loud.)

As I finish the entire series, I remembered the reason why I love this series. It has the most heatbreaking, tear-jerking quotes on love I’ve never encountered in the other manga series I’ve read. And these guys are in 4th grade. Beat that.

For example:

Tomoyo: It’s more important that the one I love is happy than if they return my feelings. Their happiness is my happines.

Never mind that the one Tomoyo loves is Sakura. Yes, in that sense. (See chapter 7.)

Syaoran: If I tell her, it would trouble her. She’s always loved him, but he likes someone else. And so she didn’t cry, so she won’t trouble him, until she talked to me. She understands that feeling when the one you love does not love you. If I tell her my feelings, she’ll think that I’m sad and be troubled. So I won’t tell her.

When Syaoran delivered these lines in the anime, I was teary-eyed. While I was reading it last night, I was crying. I guess I didn’t fully understand it back then. But I think I do now.

Thanks to One Manga for the English translation.
